Christa Pike was 18 when she was convicted in the 1995 Knoxville torture and murder of a classmate, 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, in a jealous rage and became one of the youngest women to be sent to death row. Christa Pike had a scheduled execution date of September 30, 2026; however, Tennessee state officials failed to complete the execution after two separate doses of lethal injection drugs failed to kill her. Pike's defense team is currently pushing to have her death sentence officially commuted to life in prison.
